Capital Improvement Projects

Welcome to the Fairport Central School District’s Capital Projects website. Current projects will have updates posted as they become available.

April 3, 2024

It’s an exciting time to walk the halls of Fairport High School! As the end of the school year moves into view, many of our staff continue to work on what might be the biggest group project of all: bringing the Fairport for the Future 2023 Capital Improvement Plan to life!

Fairport and Perinton residents made their investment in our Future-Ready Raiders apparent in October of 2023 when they approved both propositions of the Fairport for the Future 2023 CIP.

The District and our partners with LaBella Associates and Campus Construction have continued to meet with students, community members and staff to listen and learn about their needs for each of these new and updated spaces. Information from user groups will inform the concepts for the spaces, including the new technology wing, track and field, tennis courts and library at Fairport High School. The project team anticipates submitting the design plans to the New York State Education Department this summer, with an anticipated groundbreaking at the high school in Spring 2025.

The 2023 voter-approved project is far from the only upgrade on deck this summer! Fairport Forward 2019’s upgrades at Fairport High School will continue through Summer 2024 with the final installation of durable, sustainable terrazzo flooring in the school’s updated hallways, while our Art Department staff work to develop plans for the revamp of two art classrooms. Meanwhile, the Smart Schools project has wrapped up with the full installation of security cameras and electronic door locks.

Fairport for the Future 2023 PASSES

October 12, 2023

Dear Fairport community;

THANK YOU for investing in our Fairport schools and our Fairport students!

PROPOSITION 1 of Fairport for the Future 2023 passed with 73% of the vote. 2,800 residents voted yes and 1,025 voted no.

PROPOSITION 2 of Fairport for the Future 2023 passed with 57% of the vote. 2,165 residents voted yes and 1,651 voted no.

The approval of Fairport for the Future 2023 is the next step in our Facilities Planning process as we look ahead to the future of our Fairport schools.

It has been our great privilege to develop the Fairport for the Future 2023 Capital Improvement Project alongside our extraordinary Board of Education and every single stakeholder who shared their thoughts, ideas and advocacy throughout this process.

The turnout and support for this Capital Improvement Project are indicative of the Fairport community’s expectations and support for its schools. This project will keep the District’s facilities planning efforts moving forward and support our district’s expansive and student-centered programming for years to come. I am honored and grateful to be working in partnership with a community that values its schools.

Stay tuned for the next steps of this project - thank you for casting your vote and I look forward to the great things to come!

The Fairport Central School District is proud to announce that the Board of Education passed a resolution at its August Business meeting to call for a public vote on October 12, 2023, to consider two Propositions as part of the Fairport for the Future Capital Improvement Project.

The Board of Education and the District have worked closely with stakeholders within the community and the District to develop these two Propositions and to bring the community together around this project. All Fairport and Perinton residents are invited to cast their votes on October 12 at Johanna Perrin Middle School.

You can see the resolution here.

On October 12, voters have the choice to vote either “yes” or “no” on both Proposition 1 and Proposition 2. The enactment of Proposition 2 (track and field renovations) is dependent on the passage of Proposition 1 (updating Fairport High School).  If Proposition 1 is not passed, Proposition 2 will not be enacted, regardless of the Proposition 2 vote result. If Proposition 1 passes, as does Proposition 2, both will be enacted.

Details on the two Propositions in the Fairport for the Future Capital Improvement Project are as follows:

Proposition 1 has no additional tax impact with use of our existing Capital Building Reserves. Fairport for the Future will update and modernize facilities and spaces in Fairport High School to comfortably absorb ninth grade and support Fairport's programming. Many learning environments at Fairport High School, including technology and library spaces, are outdated and no longer serve the needs of Fairport’s students, staff and programming.

The scope of Proposition 1 includes:

Proposition 2 has a tax impact of $39/year per $200k home value after use of existing Capital Building Reserves. The FHS track and field would be updated to create a first-rate facility for practice, competition and community use.

The scope of Proposition 2 includes:

The Fairport Board of Education voted unanimously at a special meeting on May 31 to instruct the Superintendent to develop a second proposition to the ballot for the October 12 public referendum.

The first proposition on that ballot involves the Fairport for the Future Phase I Capital Improvement Project, which will have no tax impact to residents after the use of Capital Building Reserves and is aligned with these BOE priorities:

Many learning environments at Fairport High School, including technology and library spaces, are outdated and no longer serve the needs of Fairport’s students, staff and programming. To that end, Fairport for the Future includes a process for collaboration on the design and implementation of updated workroom spaces, increased parking and modernized classroom and technology spaces to better serve our students.

At the May 31 meeting, the Board charged the Superintendent with developing a second proposition, which would allow the community to vote on funding for a new track and field facility to replace Fairport High School’s existing facility.

In its decision, the Board cited an outpouring of support by members of the community for an improved track and field facility, and noted that our student athletes are at a disadvantage in practice and competition because of the antiquated state of Fairport’s track. Advocates for the track and field program expressed that track is a sport that is accessible to all students. This interscholastic activity supports more than 120 student athletes each season at both the high school and modified levels.

A proposition to modernize the Fairport High School track and field facility will have a tax impact on residents. That impact is expected to be a cost of approximately $39 annually over the span of 15 years for a home worth $200,000.

The final scope and details of both propositions will be confirmed for the October 12 referendum by the end of August 2023.

You can watch the recording of the May 31 special meeting here.

Please stay tuned for more updates and opportunities to learn more about the Capital Improvement Project.

Fairport Forward 2022: Phase II

Fairport Central School District’s commitment to providing students with high quality and modern learning environments is a cornerstone of the District’s mission. As the needs of students evolve, the District will rise to meet them.

With the planned return of ninth-graders to the Fairport High School facility in the fall of the 2026-27 school year, it is necessary to assess and adapt the learning spaces at FHS to accommodate those changing needs, as well as bringing essential facilities our other Fairport schools up to the modern, safe and welcoming standards that our students deserve and our community expects.

A big part of knowing where we're going is knowing where we are. The Fairport Central School District is so grateful for our community's past support of our Fairport Forward 2019 Capital Improvement Project, which began the process of getting the District on a regular Capital Project vote cycle AND the process of bringing our facilities up to the modern standards that YOU and OUR STUDENTS deserve!

Over the past few years, you have seen a return on your investment - and there is so much more to come! Check out this video about Where We Are in the Fairport Forward Capital project
